Camp fYrefly Youth Develop and Leadership Camp
Helping youth develop leadership skills and personal resiliency
Camp fYrefly is designed to help youth develop the leadership skills and personal resiliency necessary for them to become agents for positive change in their schools, families, and communities. Dynamic, interactive workshops are the centrepiece of Camp fYrefly programming. Youth-informed, fun, and well-organized workshops.
There are four key area of programming that Camp fYrefly focus on:
- Leadership
- Individual development
- Socialization
- Resiliency
At Camp fYrefly has 5 guiding principles that inform the development and delivery of programming:
- Creating a socially just and inclusive community
- Building resiliency and youth leadership capacity
- Empowering youth to address bullying, harassment, hate crimes, and knowing their rights
- Learning through art, music, writing, performing arts, and games
- Self and social development
Workshops provide Campers with opportunities to focus
- On self-development,
- Anti-oppression,
- Building resiliency,
- As well as workshops focusing on identities.
Workshops are lead by a variety of community organizations and people from all walks of life, which gives campers the opportunity to experience intergenerational mentorship opportunities and learn about historical and contemporary ways of knowing. Since youth provide the heartbeat for these workshops, Campers have many opportunities to be engaged and interactive as they learn holistically in fun and innovative ways.
All of our Camp programming is guided by input from youth and facilitated by trained educators and youth workers in collaboration with a team of artists, counsellors, community members and youth leaders. The Camp, guided by an arts-based educational philosophy, is jam-packed with dance, drama, music, writing, visual art, empowerment and reflection exercises, anti-oppression work, personal growth opportunities, socialization, and in-depth learning activities including various social issues.
